Lil Knot Bag Video Tutorial #2

This Knot Bag video tutorial shows how to sew the small handle, where a lot of people are having trouble because of its size.
First, I finger press in the outer fabric towards the wrong side (use iron if you prefer). Then I fold in the inner fabric to match the outer fold.  Then I place the handle on the machine so that the inner fabric is facing up...What do you mean?!!  That's why I made a video...too hard to explain.  My next challenge would be to have a voice-over the video so that I can explain as I go. :)  Until then, here's my silent video...

Lil Knot Bag Video Tutorial #1

The popular Knot Bag pattern is simple in design but can be a little tricky to sew here and there.  After reading some comments, I thought I would do a video tutorial - after all, moving pictures are worth a thousand pictures, right?  This is my first ever video recording and with lots of help from my daughter on how to edit; now I have a renewed respect for YouTubers...It takes a long time to make a video! Part two of the Knot Bag Tutorial will be available next week.

Happy sewing!

Drawstring Bags

I've been working on this drawstring bag pattern for the past few weeks and finally, it's done!  It's amazing how much of an over-thinker I become when it comes to details.  But luckily, now my body won't allow me to sit in front of the computer long enough to dwell in something for too long.  When my back starts to hurt, then I get up, stretch and take a break.  Five minute break does wonders to your mind and you can make a more rational decision!
Because I made so many samples, my bedroom corner is overflowing with bags of all sizes.  Now I will have to find right project for each bag!
The pattern is available both in my CRAFTSY & ETSY shop today and soon I will be launching a website so that I will have my shop, blog and tutorials under one roof.

Soft Boxy Bag Pattern Update

I am currently updating my existing Patterns by giving them a new fresh look while improving the instruction and patterns.  I hope to make them as clear and easy to understand as possible.

This Soft Boxy Bag pattern is the one I was working recently.  I love that this bag folds flat when not in use and also, with three size variations, you can organize your life more effectively!

I am sneaking in some embroidery work between photo shoots.  There's an excellent embroidery book called "Simply Stitched" by Yumiko Higuchi.  I am loving the slow pace of hand stitching.

TUTORIAL : Pencil Pouch

It's been a while since I last posted a tutorial.  August is fast approaching and I am already thinking about back to school shopping for my kids. My son has already picked out the blue pencil case that I made.  My heart swells when things that I made gets well used by others. That's why we make things, right? Well, aside the fact that I just love making things.
The tutorial comes with two full size patterns. The short one is perfect for storing pencils and markers and the long one is great for storing fabric scissors or other craft notions when you are on the go.
Interfacing can be added to give the pouch a more structure.  It requires a very little amount of fabric so you can make these for everyone on your "handmade gift" list!

Have a great summer everyone!

TUTORIAL : Reversible Knot Bag

This simple reversible bag is an easy project for beginner and advanced sewers alike - a great weekend project! Template is available for purchase at the sidebar.  Check out my most recent blog for the Video Tutorial.

You will need:

One Fat Quarter of patterned  fabric, 18" x 22" (46cm x 56cm)
One Fat Quarter of solid fabric, 18" x 22" (46cm x 56cm)

Fabric scissors
Sewing machine
Coordinating machine sewing thread
Needle and thread for basting stitch (optional)

Download and print template. Fold each fabric in half, right sides facing. Trace template on each fabric, right sides facing, and cut out.

You now have two solid pieces and two pattern pieces.  Align and pin the two solid pieces together, right sides facing. Do the same with the two pattern pieces.

Right sides together, using 1/4 inch seam allowance, sew along the top of each handle and along the bottom curve of each pinned piece, leaving both sides of both handles open. Clip the curves.

Turn the solid piece right side out, and insert the solid piece into the inside-out patterned piece. Line up seams, raw edges, and handles. Pin the edges of the "neckline" of the bag.

Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Clip the curves.

Going through the longer handle, turn the entire bag right side out (patterned fabric on the outside). Press all seams.

Fold raw edges of "armholes" in 1/4 inch and press. Pin or baste together. Topstitch 1/8 inch around bag handles to finish.

The Knot Bag is available in three sizes and the shoulder size bag comes with a inner pocket template. All the templates are full size so no need to enlarge.
